Recently I read the autobiography of Dietrich Bonhoeffer, the German Lutheran Pastor and Theologian martyred for his stance against Nazism. I discovered Dr Bonhoeffer stood against Hitler long before the persecution of the Jews or the rise of the Third Reich. Dietrich Bonhoeffer began opposing the Nazis when he witnessed what was occurring inside the Church.
During the late 1930s Hitler professed openly his affinity to the church. In doing so he successfully manipulated it to his will and subtly began eroding its doctrine. Adjusting allegiance to himself as the head of state and church, eventually he managed to prohibit the use of the Old Testament in state churches and persecuted all who opposed him.
As the momentum of Hitler’s new Germany took hold, and in an era of post-world war one depression, Germans readily embraced a newly industrialized Germany emerging as a world power. Hitler was in vogue globally with many world leaders praising his incredible ability to renew the German economy. This, of course, was before the announcement of the Third Reich’s military campaign. By then, however, it was too late and those who had initially embraced Hitler found themselves in the exceedingly embarrassing position of advocating a tyrant. This included the evangelical church of Germany which had agreed to Hitler’s demands and in the process caused a rift within itself. Dietrich Bonhoeffer stood as one of the few church leaders who refuted Nazism vehemently. He was not blind to what was occurring around him.
Dietrich could see the future. He understood that cultural relativism was overshadowing the authority of scripture. What society deemed as normal and good was being adopted by all. Those that disagreed with the majority were ostracized and persecuted.
Today we see history repeating. Yet again the authority of Scripture is held less as the inspired Word of God, and more as something interesting to read to perhaps draw guidelines from. Unless that is, it goes against society and causes us to be persecuted or ridiculed. In that case, passages of scripture that do not fit with cultural relativism are ignored or discarded and deemed no longer relevant. One such example is the Bible’s view on sexuality. Read the following passage from the Apostle Paul, the man Jesus Christ chose as His Apostle to the Gentiles.
Therefore God gave them over in the sinful desires of their hearts to sexual impurity for the degrading of their bodies with one another. They exchanged the truth about God for a lie, and worshiped and served created things rather than the Creator—who is forever praised. Amen. Because of this, God gave them over to shameful lusts. Even their women exchanged natural sexual relations for unnatural ones. In the same way the men also abandoned natural relations with women and were inflamed with lust for one another. Men committed shameful acts with other men, and received in themselves the due penalty for their error. Romans 1:24
Paul realised that humanity had forsaken the truth of God (the Word) in exchange for ‘loving’ their own truth (falsehood). Therefore, God gave them over to what they wanted. In doing so man and woman became so utterly disorientated, they even began to have sex with their own gender.
Today many are holding the rainbow banner and professing Gay pride and equality for Homosexual Marriage. Today our children are being taught that if they choose to have sex with someone that is the same gender, or if they view themselves as a transvestite or feel they are transsexual/transgender, then that is ok because that is what you are. It now seems that even human science is joining the momentum. Not only Hollywood is educating us, but science now seeks to tell us there is no gender difference at all.
It seems logical though, to this writer at least, that as a man I will never have a womb. Elective surgery may alter my loins and mutilate my reproductive organs to produce a Frankenstein inspired transgender vagina, yet I will never have a womb behind it. I am born a man. That is what I am. As a Christian man I am also born to marry but one woman and spend my life with her and her alone. Through sickness and health, good times and bad. The Christian God I worship also calls me to a life of purity outside of marriage – total chastity. Reserving sex as a Holy and pure act between a married man and a married woman. Thus establishing the natural relationship where two become one and create a baby.
As cultural relativism seeks to subtly erode any form of Christian doctrine, cleverly concocted marketing slogans arise, such as “love wins’ for advocating Gay marriage. Yet an ironic twist exists within the term itself. Love will win, for God is Love. However, God is also Holy, Righteous and Almighty. A God that detests sin and one day has promised to destroy the entire earth because of it. Removing everything that loves and practices falsehood. God wins.
“Outside are the dogs and sorcerers and the sexually immoral and murderers and idolaters, and everyone who loves and practices falsehood.” – Jesus Christ – Rev 22:15
